Owner Kevin Thesing said the business co-owner, Dode Pohlkamp, was “the inspiration to get the business started.” He gives Pohlkamp credit for the printing company’s success, saying “female management is what has made us successful.” In addition to providing the “stabilizing force” behind the business, Dode’s vision has also been paramount to the company’s high level of community involvement in the Brainerd Lakes area, as shared on their website.

Thesing has managed Lakes Printing since its inception in 1988. With retirement on the horizon, Barb Nelson, Thesing's sister, has worked through all the different areas of the business for the past fourteen years in preparation for this transition. When asked how Barb’s leadership will differ from his own, Kevin replied: “Barb is more analytical than I am. She has a better understanding than I do. I managed the business with how my gut felt about it, Barb relies on numbers and her instincts combined.”
